Dental Crowns and Bridges
Dental crowns and bridges are among the most common restorations used in dentistry today. Dr. Ghasri and our team in Los Angeles can use them to repair badly damaged or decayed teeth and restore the full function of your smile. We use natural-looking dental porcelain, which reflects light much like dental enamel, and shade it to match your teeth so that the restoration looks flawless.
A crown is a customized cap that fits over the crown of the tooth, or the part of the tooth that is visible above the gumline. Crowns are typically used to cover and protect teeth that have been broken or otherwise damaged and cannot be restored with fillings. Dental crowns can also be used to restore teeth that have had endodontic therapy. If your tooth has suffered serious damage but still has healthy roots and sufficient structure to support a restoration, Dr. Ghasri or one of our other dentists might recommend a crown.
Dental crowns are typically placed in two visits. The tooth is prepared under local anesthesia. Once the tooth is fully numb, the decay is removed, and the tooth is cleaned and shaped. This ensures a comfortable fit. A dental impression is made to create a perfect fitting crown, and the crown is then crafted in our dental lab. Once the crown is made, it will be bonded to the tooth.
Bridges are used when one or more teeth are missing. They are more affordable than implants, and they offer stronger, more stable results than partial dentures. They are supported by crowns, which are affixed to the teeth adjacent to either side.
Dental bridges offer several benefits. They keep your teeth from drifting or moving out of place, as well as look and feel much like your own teeth. Dental bridges are placed much like dental crowns but can require two to three visits depending on your needs. Your bridge will be easy to brush and does not need to be removed to be cleaned. With proper dental care, you can expect your bridge to last many years.
