:: Non- Surgical Procedures
  • Scaling & Root Planing - The First Treatment for Early Stages of Periodontal Disease
  • Scaling and Root Planing is the first treatment for periodontal disease. It removes all the irritants under the gums to eliminate inflamation and infection. Half of the mouth is numbed so that the hygienist can comfortably remove hardened food and plaque from below the gums. This is called scaling and it's like removing the scales from a fish. Most hygienists also use ultrasonic vibrating tools to blast deposits off of teeth.
  • Arestin Placement
  • ARESTIN® is a treatment for adult periodontitis, an infection of the gums that can lead to tooth loss. ARESTIN® uses Microsphere technology to easily and effectively kill the bacteria that cause periodontal diseases. Preparation and administration of ARESTIN® is quick and easy.
:: Surgical Procedures
  • Restoring the health of teeth and gums is the science of periodontal disease therapy. The infection of the gums and supportive tissues surrounding the teeth (periodontal disease) can be controlled and in some cases even reversed. Working as a treatment team with your general dentist, we can help restore your mouth to a healthier condition and improve the chance of preserving your teeth

  • Gingival Graft - Soft Tissue Graft - Soft tissue is added to reinforce thin gums or to fill in are on a where gums have receded. Grafted tissue, usually taken from the roof of your mouth, is sutured in place over the affected area. Thin, recessed gums reveal tooth roots, causing sensitivity and an uneven gumline.

  • Crown Lengthening - Excess gum and bone tissue are reshaped to expose more of the natural tooth. This can be done to one tooth, to the gumline, or to several teeth to expose a natural, broad smile. Dr. Afar may also recommend crown lengthening to make a restorative or cosmetic dental procedure possible - perhaps if a tooth is decayed, broken below the gumline, or has insufficient tooth structure for a restoration, such as a crown or bridge. CL adjusts the gum and bone level to expose more of the tooth so it can be restored.
