Teeth whitening is one of the fastest, easiest ways to give your smile a lift. Dr. Ghasri and the team at our Los Angeles cosmetic dental office offer a variety of whitening options that can eliminate most common stains from teeth. Whitening can create younger-looking, more attractive smiles with a single in-office treatment or a series of easy-to-use at-home treatments.
Although teeth are often thought of as being naturally white, dental enamel comes in many shades, and over time, the color can change as a result of age or lifestyle factors. Some things that can affect the color of your teeth include:
• Dental trauma
• Tobacco use
• Stain-causing foods and drinks such as wine, cola, coffee, tea, and energy drinks
• Excess fluoride use
Teeth whitening can help address many of these issues. We use peroxide-based whitening ingredients that power through the enamel and dentin of the tooth. The oxygen breaks the stain-causing molecules into smaller, less visible particles, for teeth that look whiter.
At-home whitening uses custom-made mouth trays and prescription-strength bleaching gels. Wearing the trays as prescribed every day can give you visibly whiter teeth in just a week or two. Although many patients enjoy the convenience of whitening in the privacy of their own homes, others prefer the speed and efficiency of in-office whitening. Our team uses Zoom whitening, a special in-office light-assisted whitening procedure that lightens teeth eight to ten shades in about an hour. Zoom works quickly and effectively to eliminate stains even deep inside the structure of the tooth.
If you are a candidate for Zoom, we might recommend a dental cleaning first to remove any buildup from your teeth and ensure even penetration of the whitening solution. Zoom whitening is then applied in our office after your soft tissues are protected. A special light is used to activate the gel. The entire treatment is completed in about an hour, and your teeth will remain whiter as long as you maintain your results with good dental hygiene and periodic touch-ups, as recommended.
