Avoiding Cavities in Children
If you have children, then you know how many trips you take to the dentist and how many teeth your children will lose before they get their permanent teeth. It is important to teach children how to take care of their adult teeth because this is the only set they will get. There are some tips that are easy to remember in order to avoid cavities in children.
Brushing
Teach your child that brushing is a part of life. This routine should also include flossing and rinsing with a fluoride mouthwash. Make sure your child brushes at least twice a day. Set a timer in the bathroom so that the child knows how long to brush the teeth. Show the child how to floss correctly to get food particles from between the teeth.
Food
Another way to avoid cavities is by eating healthy foods. Do not let your child drink juice from a bottle as this will cause sugar to sit on the back of the teeth. Try not to give your child cookies, candy and other foods that have high sugar content. This also includes sodas. If your child does eat these sweet treats, make sure the teeth are brushed as soon as possible.
Visit the Dentist
The most important thing you can do for your child is to visit the dentist. Our dentist in Los Angeles can give you information about treatments that are done in the office and how often your child should visit. The dentist will examine the teeth, do X-rays to see if there are any cavities between the teeth and teach the child how to brush and floss at home.
