Dental Care and Allergy Concerns

Allergy sufferers are often intensely aware of the world around them. Whether you suffer from seasonal allergies or you have contact or food allergies, you may feel the need to be ever vigilant when you are at a restaurant, at the store or just out with friends. Many people abandon their caution at the dental office, however.

  1. Metal Allergies. Although most restorations now use porcelain or composite resin, metal is still used in some types of fillings, crowns and bridges. If you have a metal allergy, talk to our dentist about your needs and request all-porcelain crowns and fillings.
  2. Acrylic. Acrylic is often used to craft temporary restorations. If you have an acrylic allergy, request composite resin instead.
  3. Latex. Latex allergies are common and can be quite severe. If you have a latex allergy, talk to our dentist so that we can use latex-free tools to protect your health.
  4. Gluten. You may not expect to find gluten in a dental office, but it is a common ingredient in polishing agents. Tell us if you have a gluten sensitivity or allergy so that we can use alternative agents.
  5. Medications. Many of our patients have drug allergies that require alternative prescriptions. However, eugenol and epinephrine are both used in our office. If you are allergic to either of these ingredients, let us know so that we can make any necessary adjustments.

Your regular checkup is a great time to update your paperwork and ensure we have all the current information about your health status, medications and allergies. Give us a call today to schedule your next appointment with our Los Angeles dentist.
